The SAILOR SP3500 portable series is designed to provide clear, reliable, short-range communications in any conditions. Waterproof and designed to fit comfortably in the palm, the radios are equipped with a ribbed grip, have big tactile buttons and a large, easy-to-read display with red backlight to protect users’ night vision.
The SAILOR radios will primarily be used for communications between the Ice Team and the ship’s crew when the explorers are on the edge of the Antarctic and still in range of the SA Agulhas. This will include several weeks at the beginning and end of the expedition when the ship is being unloaded/loaded.
The radios will also sometimes be used by the Ice Team when the skiers are too far from the MLV to be in range with the Eagle, and also to communicate with other groups in Antarctica (e.g. researchers at the South Pole).
